Last Saturday, Jer and I decided to have a date to a matinee movie and lunch at Firehouse. For the movie we drove down to The Gateway. As we were walking into the mall, we saw a bunch of people walking down the street. It turned out there was a big event and they shut down the main road through the mall. We saw a sign stating that this was a Chalk Walk. Curious, we got a little closer to some of the people that were on the ground with chalk and we noticed that there were some amazing drawings right on the road! We had to hurry to catch our movie but planned on walking the whole street when we got out so we could see all the art.
It turned out to be the highlight of our Gateway experience that day because the movie we saw was terrible. The trouble was I didn't have our camera on me, but I managed to get some good shots with my cell phone and I will post those for you all to see. This was a lot of fun! From what the signs said, this was done by students. Not sure if they were college students, because as you will see some of them looked pretty young.

Took this shot from the walkway by the theater. You can see the little areas that have been set up for the artists. Most were pretty smart and brought something to shade them from the sun while they worked.

Another shot of the people, taken at the intersection.

Not the best shot with the shade, but you can see just how detailed some of these drawings were.
Here's a good example, this one took two people to draw. You can see the picture they were using down in the left corner.

I thought this one was pretty cool, not something you would expect to see in chalk on the road.

This drawing was pretty good, but I took this shot mainly because of the girl. She looked like she was maybe 15.

Here's another that I liked, hard to believe this was all done with just chalk.

There were a few sections chained off like this, I think these were drawings done by the teachers. Not sure though. This is another good example of how detailed these drawings were.

Dah da-da dah... Cool, huh? I took this shot not just for the drawing, but because I also found it funny that the girl's underwear was hanging out. :)

Awesome. Thanks for posting those pictures. We wanted to go to the Chalk Walk, since we live less than a mile away, but didn't get a chance. We need to play some volleyball. I'm so jealous of all your vacation pictures. One day, One day.
cool pictures. We enjoyed looking at them. Andrew wants to know if the last picture is of Indiana Jones. haha I wonder how long it took them to do those....also, glad it wasn't raining.
Man. Those put my huge utah jazz symbol chalk drawing to shame. BUT I used big fat sidewalk chalk. How many of them can say that? I also wanted to put in... that my mom brought out the tarp and protected it when it rained, and I bet those artists didn't have that luxury after they went home that day.
cute new picture at the top! Those artists are AMAZING!
Very purple.
